The LambdaCommander programmable spectral processor from Newport Corp. is suitable for remote fiber optic sensing and optical telecommunications applications. The processor features Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing technology, which uses a digital micromirror device that rapidly switches segments on and off incrementally and transforms a diffracted spectral profile into optical output. This allows the user to reshape and define the spectral profile for testing and simulation. The fiber-coupled device can apply arbitrary transformation to the original optical signal by passing selected narrow wavelengths and blocking others. The LambdaCommander also can apply complex, time-varying functions to the spectral shape with bandwidths up to 100 nm.
