A polishing system that can simultaneously process six biconic optical connectors has been announced by Krell Technologies Inc. The company says the work holder's independent suspension provides equalized and controlled polishing pressure for each connector. This allows accurate material removal to 0.00005-in. tolerance. The system can measure the taper lengths while the connectors are still loaded and can monitor them throughout the polishing process. In-line visual surface inspection can be performed without removing the connectors. The system can be upgraded to support other industry-standard connectors.
