A digital FireWire camera capable of producing 1280 x 1024 images at 30 fps has been released by Point Grey Research. The Scorpion features Symagery Microsystems' VCA1281M progressive-scan CMOS sensor, which uses on-chip double sampling to enhance image quality and to provide minimized fixed-pattern noise. The camera is compatible with the company's image acquisition software for controlling peripherals such as lighting, actuators, focus, zoom and camera features including CCD integration time and gain. External trigger output, shutter start output, and digital input and output are offered.
