Photon Engineering LLC has released version 2.1 of Fred optical engineering software for simulating the propagation of light. The software offers real-time photorealistic rendering and model editing with calculations displayed in 2- and 3-D interactive plots. It can be used to model scatter and stray light, interference, polarization, ghost analyses, coherent and incoherent beam propagation, and illumination systems. Users can define optomechanical systems in terms of assemblies and subassemblies, and objects such as optical elements and light sources can be placed in the coordinate system of other objects.
