LASER DIODE DRIVER Directed Energy Inc. has unveiled a benchtop driver and current source for laser diodes, laser diode bars and arrays for pulsed and CW and quasi- CW modes. The PCX-7410 operates as a CW driver at currents from 10 mA to 5 A and as a pulsed quasi-CW from 10 mA to 10 A. It provides pulse widths from 50 ns to 500 ms, rise times of <30 ns and pulse repetition from single shot to 100 kHz (or 1 MHz with external triggering). The device accommodates anode and cathode laser diodes, and users can select output polarity via the front panel or computer interface. Full control of the driver is possible via RS-232 and GPIB interfaces, and up to five configurations may be stored in internal nonvolatile memory.
