Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions Inc. (Taos) offers a programmable color light-to-frequency converter that integrates red, green and blue filters on a single die. The TCS230 combines configurable silicon photodiodes and a current-to-frequency converter on a monolithic CMOS integrated circuit. It provides 10- to 12-bit resolution per color channel without analog-to-digital converters. The device is suitable for colorimetric applications such as medical diagnostics, computer monitor calibration and color matching paints, textiles and printed materials. The TCS230 has a typical nonlinearity error of 0.2% at 50 kHz.
