TUNABLE FILTER Santec Corp's OTF-400 optical tunable filter comprises a bandpass filter mounted on a precision motor. The company says the filter has half the insertion loss of other tunable devices and maintains sharp top-flat cutoff characteristics in the C-band. It offers 30-nm tuning, 0.3-dB polarization dependence and a simple serial interface. A latchable mechanism enables the device to maintain its position in the absence of a control signal. The OTF-400 measures 62 3 45 3 19 mm and is suitable for applications such as flexible wavelength selection, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing, wavelength conversion and optical performance monitoring.
