The MC3110 parallel-interface motion processor chip has been added to Performance Motion Devices Inc.'s Pilot family of products. It communicates with the host processor via a 16-bit parallel data port, and is suitable for embedded systems in industrial control, automation and robotic applications. The 132-pin device has 5-V power, surface-mount CMOS technology and supports a 32-bit position error. The preprogrammed PID filter features feed-forward velocity and scalable acceleration, and it operates at 100-µs loop cycle time. The chip accepts feedback from an incremental or absolute encoder or resolver at up to 160 megacounts per second and supports 16-bit DAC and 10-bit, 20-kHz PWM-compatible output signals.
