Sony Electronics Inc.'s Factory Automation Div. has developed the optics unit and controller for the SAF-302 high-speed autofocusing microscope. The instrument has autofocusing speeds from 0.2 to 0.7 s with precision repeatability of ±0.1 mm. It comes with an automatic focus parameter setting function and trace mode for tracking moving objects. Applications include measurement and inspection in the production of magnetic heads, semiconductor wafers, LCDs, precision machining and robotic vision systems.
