The Eksel 110 evaluation kit for surface-emitting lasers is offered by Toptica Photonics AG. It is a convection-cooled module with driving electronics, a 5-W laser diode pump, pump optics and a gain chip. A microprocessor controls the electronics, which the user can access manually or via a programmable RS-232 interface. With the software, the user can cycle the temperature and the power and can monitor parameters such as power, current and temperature. The laser diode can deliver up to 4.5 W of pump power to a 120-µm-diameter circular spot. The device comes with a linear cavity, but the user can easily access the gain chip and change the resonator design.
