Applied Multilayers Ltd. has announced a line of optical coating equipment that employs its proprietary "closed field" reactive sputtering technology. In the CFM process, a rotating vertical drum holds the substrates, and linear magnetrons deposit film without the need for another ion or plasma source. Multilayer thickness is computer-controlled. The machines produce dense and stable ITO and metal-oxide and -nitride thin films for antireflection coatings, flat panel and liquid crystal displays, IR sensors and photovoltaics.
