Lambda Research Corp. has released Oslo optical design software for the Linux operating system, which is similar in look, feel and technical capabilities to the version for Windows. The company says that files can be transferred seamlessly between the two versions. The program provides traditional lens design functions and combines advanced analysis, ray tracing and optimization techniques with a high-speed macro language. It includes tools for designing medical instruments, illumination systems and telecommunications equipment.
