Thin, 95-µm-high LED chips produced by Cree Inc. provide a typical brightness of 7 mW and forward voltage of 3.2 V when operated at 20 mA. With a typical forward voltage of 2.9 V when operated at 5 mA, the RazerThin products are suitable for battery-based mobile appliances. Potential applications include next-generation blue and white keypad back-lighting and the digital camera flash for mobile appliances. The GaN-on-SiC devices, available in 460- and 470-nm blue versions, have a vertical chip structure requiring a single wire bond, which simplifies assembly and improves reliability.
