The Microlux-R series high-purity calcined alumina abrasive powders from Meller Optics Inc. are for grinding, lapping and polishing precision optics such as semisoft crystalline and composite substrates, and hard materials, including germanium, silicon, zinc sulfide and selenide, and stainless steel. They produce surface finishes as fine as 10-5 scratch-dig. The 99.98% pure powders are available in two ready-to-mix grades and eight particle sizes from 0.05 to 3 µm. Their large particles begin grinding and lapping aggressively and then break down under pressure for final polishing.
