Cognex Corp.'s PatFlex software extends the company's PatMax suite of geometric pattern-finding technologies to new applications and, the company says, it facilitates part fixturing and system setup. The tool enables a vision system to locate an object, feature or pattern even if the perspective has changed or the surface is curved, warped, wrinkled or stretched. Its perspective tolerance allows greater flexibility in machine design. Suitable for packaging operations that use nonrigid containers, the software also enables the optical verification of characters marked on curved surfaces where perspective and bow distortions occur, and it tolerates the skew and aspect compression of the mark.
