3SAE Technologies Inc. has developed two technologies to assist the manufacture of large-diameter fibers for use in high-power fiber lasers for military and aerospace applications. The FSU 995 autoalignment software package works with arc fusion splicers for the splicing of fibers up to 600 µm in diameter and is compatible with Windows 98, 2000 and XP operating systems. The FK 11-LDF cleaver is designed to produce flat, clean and low-angle cleaves in fibers up to 400 µm in diameter using superheated air rather than hot acid baths or mechanical stripping blades.
