Splice Enclosure Norland Products Inc.'s P/N 20960M flexible splice enclosure for fiber optic tactical field cable protects fiber optic splices and restores cable strength. Measuring 13.25 in. long and 0.75 in. in diameter, the enclosure is made of an interlocking stainless steel core surrounded by a braided mesh and covered in waterproof polyolefin. It holds up to four mechanical or 12 fusion splices and is rated for more than 600 lb per linear inch of compression. The inside of the enclosure grips the Kevlar, resulting in a tensile strength of more than 400 lb for the repaired cable and protecting the splices from shock, vibration and environmental conditions. Neoprene cable glands on each end provide a watertight seal on a variety of cable diameters.
