Diamond SA has released an automated fusion splicer that strips, cleans, cleaves and splices 140 fibers per hour through independent units operating in parallel mode. Power requirements are 110 to 230 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz, 1.2 A and 280 W. The system accepts manual insertion of single fibers or automatic insertion from two pallets containing 20 fibers each, and it has an end-pallet for stocking spliced couples. The stripper and cleaver units automatically remove coating and fiber wastes, respectively, and the cleaning unit has a fiber drying system. The splicer automatically inspects the cut and cleaned fibers. Features include a color touch screen, LabView operating software and a trolley for easy transportation. No external compressed air is required. The system weighs ~75 kg, with the trolley.
