Semiconductor lasers for 635 nm in 5-, 10- and 15-mW models have been launched by Blue Sky Research. The BRLD-635 series devices require a low operating current and operate at a wide temperature range. They have an estimated mean time to failure of 10,000 h at 50 °C, or 150,000 h at 25 °C. They are packaged in hermetically sealed DVD-grade 5.6-mm TO cans with an integrated monitor photodiode. The lasers are applicable for construction and alignment equipment, biomedical and metrology instrumentation, and bar-code readers.
