Phoenix Photonics Ltd. has enhanced its offerings of all-fiber polarization control components with the introduction of a variable wave plate that has no moving parts. The company says that the compact device offers low loss, virtually zero backreflection, simple electronic control, easy integration and robust operation. Available in the 1250- to 1640-nm range, it can be customized for other wavelengths. Changing the applied voltage modifies the linear birefringence within the device and provides a full cycle of the Poincaré sphere. Combining several wave plates and integrating all-fiber polarizers extends the polarization-control capabilities of the product.
