Arrayed Fiberoptics Corp.'s epoxy-free fiber arrays incorporate a patent-pending integrated epoxy-blocking structure that can be configured in linear arrays up to 1 × 64 channels, and 2-D arrays, with pitch as small as 127 µm. Applications include coupling to planar lightwave circuits and such devices as arrayed waveguide gratings, beamsplitters, optical add/drop modules, optical cross-connect switches and microlens arrays. They can be integrated into existing devices or can be used to create new component designs. The company says that the fiber arrays are an improvement over the conventional butt-coupling approach because they don't leave epoxy in the optical path.
