Alfalight Inc. has demonstrated an integrated wavelength-stabilized multimode laser based on patent-pending technology. With a 976-nm, 1.6-W fiber-coupled diode laser, more than 95% of the power is emitted in a 1-nm window over a span of 12 °C and with output ranging from 1 to 1.7 W. The center wavelength changes by <0.1 nm, and the FWHM linewidth of 0.3 nm changes by <10%. Operation over 5 °C produces a side-mode suppression ratio of <30 dB. The technology is suitable for optically pumping gain media that have a narrow absorption band, such as optical amplifiers and fiber lasers, and for industrial, diode-pumped solid-state, spectroscopic, instrumentation and bioanalytical applications.
