LASER DIODES Monocrom SL has developed a series of high-power pulsed laser diodes that utilize a new clamp technology in a solder-free mount. The laser bars are mounted within water-cooled copper blocks that act as a heat sink and as electrodes. The company says that the approach reduces thermal and mechanical stress in the emitters, enabling peak powers of up to 120 W in 20-ms quasi-CW mode and offering higher focusability than soldered bars. The lasers are suitable for use in compact laser heads for aesthetics applications.
