PI (Physik Instrumente) LP's P-871 closed-loop piezo bender actuators feature a high-resolution position feedback sensor that provides 20 times greater linearity, accuracy and repeatability than other such devices, according to the company. Based on proprietary Picma series actuators, the transducers attain positioning ranges of up to 2000 µm and response times in the millisecond range. Their monolithic design results in faster response and higher stiffness, and their cofired ceramic insulation reduces the diffusion of water molecules into the insulation layer, which is a major cause of dielectric breakdown. Applications include nanopositioning, fiber optic switches, scanning of optical components, and beam deflection and stabilization.
