CCD CAMERA The CoolView EM1000, launched by Photonic Science Ltd. for live cell and confocal microscopy, single-molecule fluorescence and calcium ratio imaging, combines Impactron high-resolution electron-multiplying CCD technology with a 12- to 16-bit low-noise hardware design. It features maintenance-free deep cooling and a choice of an LVDS or a FireWire interface for high performance and easy integration. The company says that the camera offers high resolution, operates at fast frame rates and exhibits a high dynamic range. Sensitivity is down to single-photon detection. On-chip signal amplification of up to 1000:1, reduced exposure time and improved duty cycles make it suitable for use in applications such as in vivo luminescence imaging, chemiluminescent gel analysis, detection of bacteria colonies and high-throughput screening.
