Precision-Optical Engineering has announced an interferometer that comes with a choice of lasers either operating at 10.6 µm and tunable over the 9.2- to 10.7-µm range, or operating from 3 to 5 µm. The Interfire-II performs routine quality monitoring tests for optical components and systems in the IR and can be used in production, quality control and research. The 3- to-5-µm version is mounted on an invar frame for improved stability, tolerates local temperature changes and has a fast warm-up time. The 10.6-µm model is available with water-cooled lasers for good stability. The systems use a focal plane array camera for increased sensitivity and reduced noise. The electronic system is processor-controlled, enabling the use of a remote laptop for motor-controlled functions.
