Hamamatsu Corp. has introduced its L9279-14 transmitter optical subassembly, an 850-nm VCSEL diode that the company says enables short, low-cost fiber communications links. Designed for Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel transceivers, the device has a response of 2.5 Gb/s, a 0.38-mW output, a spectral half width of 0.4 nm, and typical rise and fall times of 150 ps.
