ACHROMATIC LENSES The precision achromatic doublet lens series launched by Newport Corp. includes focal lengths from 12.7 to 750 mm, in standard diameters of 6.35, 12.7, 25.4, 38.1, 50.8 and 76.2 mm. Focal-length tolerance is ±2%, scratch-dig is 40-20, and per-surface reflectivity is 0.5% throughout the visible spectrum, with surface irregularity of l/8 or better. The lenses are suitable for laser focusing because their high correction for spherical aberration results in smaller spot sizes, and their large field of view facilitates alignment.
