Transmitter optical subassembly laser sources for use in optical fiber communications applications such as Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel have been introduced by Eblana Photonics. The first released are 1310- and 1550-nm Fabry-Perot versions, with discrete-mode, single-wavelength models to follow. The devices complement a proprietary TO-can laser diode line. The company says the sources have a wide operating temperature range, low threshold current and bandwidth up to 2.5 Gb/s.
