LASER UPGRADE Coherent Inc. has released a version of its Chameleon-XR laser designed to maximize the performance and flexibility of multiphoton excitation microscopes. The upgraded model offers a wider tuning range -- from 705 to 980 nm -- and more than 1.5 W of average power at 800 nm. It retains other features of the previous model, including a microscope-optimized pulse width of ~120 fs, M2 <1.1 and a circular beam profile. The increase in output produces short wavelengths for excitation of DAPI and Fura, and long wavelengths for YFP and DsRed, as well as deep-tissue imaging with minimum scattered light. It also enables multiple beam excitation, resulting in shorter image acquisition times.
