VIBRATION ISOLATION The 8001 series tabletop vibration isolation platform unveiled by Kinetic Systems Inc. isolates all six translational and rotational modes in such devices as interferometers and scanning-probe and photoimaging microscopes. The system, available in four sizes, has a microprocessor control with a <1-Hz frequency and an automatic leveling mechanism, and displays a multiplexed signal on an oscilloscope. The company says that its active feedback control outperforms air-isolation systems, damping vibrations from 1.0 to 1000 Hz, and that passive control handles vibrations above 1000 Hz.
