Incorporating a microscopy technique that merges spherical waves of two objectives to produce a single round wave, the TCS 4Pi confocal microscope is available from Leica Microsystems AG. The device, suitable for measuring structures in living cells measuring 100 nm, records specimens in layers, providing 3-D stacked images that allow the user to rotate, image, view and measure the specimen from all sides. The microscope is designed to study the structures and processes within cells, as well as to reveal the dynamics and interaction of proteins within cells.
