PULSED FIBER LASER Aculight Corp. has released model PF1550-36 for laser rangefinding, range-gated imaging, sensing and micromachining. Measuring 12 × 13 × 3.5 in., the diffraction-limited, pulsed fiber laser operates in the eye-safe region near 1.54 µm and delivers 3- to 5-ns pulses at repetition rates between 20 kHz and 1 MHz. It produces 4 W of average power at repetition rates of more than 50 kHz and peak powers exceeding 15 kW. The device can be rack-mounted or used benchtop, and power levels can be remotely controlled with a PC via an RS-485 port.
