Measuring 3 × 1 cm, the Ostar high-power LED from Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH is suitable for medical lighting, microscope illumination, high-end strobe lights, variable message signs and projection. The 120-lm light source consists of red, green and blue thin-film chips, a ceramic carrier for connecting to the heat sink and electrostatic discharge elements for protection against overvoltage. It can be used in mini projectors and projects images directly onto a wall. The company says that the positioning of the chips and the compact arrangement of the components ensure even distribution of light over the enlarged image, with no gaps or irregularities.
