LITHIUM-ION BATTERY StellarNet Inc.'s near-IR spectrometers are powered by a lightweight lithium-ion battery with thermoelectrically cooled 1024-element InGaAs detectors for up to six hours of spectroscopy measurements. The BP1 battery pack supplies 5400 mA hours and can be recharged with a universal AC adapter. A high-precision DC regulator supplies the constant 5-V output required by 0.9- to 1.7-µm InGaAs detectors as the battery voltage declines. As well as extending the PC's operating life, the battery pack avoids the noise from the USB interface to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. It can concurrently power the company's EPP2000C concave grating UV-VIS spectrometer to obtain a complete UV/VIS/NIR spectrum.
