SILICON AVALANCHE PHOTODIODES For rangefinder, lidar and spatial light transmission applications, Hamamatsu Corp. is offering the S9717 series silicon avalanche photodiodes. They cover a spectral response of 400 to 1000 nm and achieve photosensitivity of 0.5 A/W and gain of 100 at 800 nm. Three models are available: The S9717-02K has typical dark current of 50 pA, terminal capacitance of 1.5 pF and an active area diameter of 0.2 mm. The S9717-05K and –05L versions have typical dark current of 100 pA, terminal capacitance of 3.0 pF and an active area diameter of 0.5 mm. The surface-mount devices measure 3.5 × 4.0 mm. Operating temperature is 220 to 85 °C, and dark current does not increase when they are operated in high-temperature/high-humidity environments.
