For efficient coupling of light from an optical fiber into a planar waveguide device, photodiode or other nonstandard high-numerical-aperture waveguide, Chiral Photonics Inc. has introduced a fiber-based tapered coupler. Two versions are available: TC-P, a polarizing coupler, and TC-PM, a polarization-maintaining one. They are supplied within a standard ferrule that eases integration into micropositioning equipment, and pigtailed with an optical fiber of choice. They can be customized with respect to spectral range, dimensions of the mode field and integration needs.
