FO SPECTROMETERS Miniature fiber optic spectrometers for the near-IR from 0.9 to 1.7 µ;m and 1.5 to 2.2 µm are available from StellarNet Inc. They are portable, have no moving optical parts, and connect to a PC via a USB 2.0 or a parallel port. The InGaAs detectors are photodiode arrays with 512 or 1024 elements and are thermoelectrically cooled. Pixels measuring 25 × 500 µm produce high sensitivity, and a 2.5-MHz digitizer acquires near-IR spectra in 1 ms. An optional lithium-ion battery enables operation for up to 6 h. SpectraWiz software provides measurements for chemical analysis using absorption, transmittance and reflectance.
