Nufern has developed the patent-pending PumpGuard optical fiber for use in applications that include pump legs for couplers and combiners, or for double-clad fibers, multimode laser beam delivery fiber and laser pump diode pigtails. Available in industry-standard 105/125 µm, the series will be expanded to cover additional high-power delivery fibers up to 400/480 µm, with numerical apertures ranging from 0.12 to 0.22. PumpGuard redistributes the reverse-propagating, high-brightness light, a cause of failure in multimode diodes that are used to pump high-beam-quality fiber lasers and amplifiers.
