10-W LASER ENGRAVING/CUTTING Universal Laser Systems Inc. has introduced its 10-W VersaLaser with a 16 × 12-in. engraving table, suitable for lower-power applications. A computer-controlled CO2 laser engraving and cutting system that functions like a printer from Windows-based software programs, it can cut and engrave wood, paper, fabric, rubber and plastics, and can etch on hard materials, including glass, ceramic and metal (with a marking compound or special optics). The materials-based print driver facilitates operation and reduces the learning curve for new users. Upgradable to 25 or 30 W, the system is suitable for engraving on organic materials such as Mylar and leather, and for etching on anodized aluminum and coated brass.
