Gemfire Corp. has unveiled the Athermal Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG), a DWDM mux/demux device that operates on 200-GHz channel spacing without requiring temperature stabilization. The compact instrument measures 100 × 50 × 10 mm and operates from 25 to 70 °C. The company says that the gratings offer low insertion loss, good channel isolation and high uniformity. The PhotonIC planar-processed silica-on-silicon chips comprise arrayed channel waveguides to separate or combine multiple wavelengths. Optical return loss is −40 dB, and crosstalk is −25 dB.
