SIGNAL CONVERTER The LTX-5520 electrical-to-optical/optical-to-electrical converter pair launched by Terahertz Technologies Inc. enables 16 independent channels of digital information to be conveyed over fiber optic links that range in size from meters to >10 km. Each of the 16 incoming TTL channels is sampled at a rate of 50 megasamples per second, then multiplexed and transmitted serially over an optical fiber at a data rate of 1 Gb/s. When the receiver acquires this digital data, it demultiplexes it to 16 separate output ports. Each channel can be toggled at rates between 0 and 25 Mb/s.
