Princeton Lightwave Inc. has added mixed-mode signal-detection ability to its line of optical channel monitors. The ability to recognize signals consisting of different bit rates and modulation formats with a single monitor allows network designers to use one instrument for any data rate or format. The monitors use proprietary firmware, enabling them to automatically recognize given input of data rates and channel formats in a spectrum in real time. The instruments can monitor signals in any combination of data modes (10G/40G, NRZ/RZ/CSRZ), while accurately reporting wavelength and power in each mode.
