DIODE LASER Omicron Laserage Laserprodukte GmbH, in cooperation with Memorytech, has developed a diode laser for the production of DVDs in high-definition format. The process involves the production of DVD patterns, or masters, on a glass substrate with a diode laser. Omicron's LDM laser diode module, with a wavelength of 375 nm, can create structural resolution of less than 200 nm in one photoresist. The device does not require an acousto-optical modulator; it can be directly modulated analogously with up to 350 MHz. The company says that the diode laser has advantages over competing gas lasers, which are larger and require more time to manufacture the glass master.
