BROADBAND POLARIZER A flat foillike polarizer that operates in both the visible and the near-infrared has been developed by Codixx AG. The colorPol VisIR, based on prolated nanoparticles in soda-lime glass, covers the wavelengths from 550 to 1500 nm. Contrast ratio is >10,000:1 and transmittance, 57% to 85%. Between 600 and 1200 nm, contrast improves to >100,000:1 and transmittance, to 67% to 84%. Operating temperature ranges from −50 to 400 °C. The polarizing filters are available in standard dimensions of 50 × 35 mm, with thickness of 260 ±50 µm, as well as in a version with a thickness of 2 mm and a wavefront distortion of better than λ/4 at 633 nm.
