Alphalas GmbH has released a diode-pumped solid-state laser kit with five modes of operation. Intended as an educational aid in the fundamentals of laser theory and practice, the kit also can be used in laser and optics research, in laser-matter interaction experiments and as a start-up for further solid-state laser developments. The operational modes are continuous wave and Q-switched at 1064 and at 532 nm, and extracavity frequency doubling. The kit includes a 300-ps photodetector, a CCD array and an infrared-to-visible converter. Active Q-switching and harmonic generation are available as options.
