LOGIC SIGNAL CONVERTERS The J720 electrical-to-optical and the J730 optical-to-electrical converters unveiled by Highland Technology Inc. convert logic levels to fiber optic media for fast, low-noise transport over long distances. The J720 is powered by its logic-level input, and the J730 requires a 12-V supply. The compact devices use ST-connector 62- to 125-µm multimode fiber. They can transport logic level or critical timing triggers for a distance of kilometers in high-electromagnetic-interference environments with link jitter of <10 ps rms. The J730 provides a digital logic output with a rise time of <750 ps and a 180-MHz bandwidth output for monitoring link integrity.
