Heidenhain Corp. has introduced the LC 182, an absolute optical linear scale that covers measuring lengths of up to 4240 mm. A proprietary single-field scanning method has been incorporated into the design to mitigate any effects of contamination and to offer high traversing speeds and increased natural frequency. Signal quality over the entire measuring length is constant, resolution is down to 0.02 µm, and maximum traversing speed is up to 120 m/min.
