IR LED Optek Technology has developed an infrared surface-mount LED in a 0805 chip package. The OP200 is a GaAlAs device that is RoHS-compliant and compatible with high-speed automated placement systems. Other applications include noncontact position sensors, machine automation systems and miniature optical encoders.The 880-nm LED has a flat, molded lens to provide a wide beam angle and an evenly distributed emission pattern. Its electrical performance is characterized at 30-V reverse voltage, 1.5-V forward voltage, 50-mA continuous forward current and power dissipation of 130 mW at 25 °C. The LED produces 0.2 mW/cm2 at 20 mA and operates from –25 to 85 °C.
