SILICA MICROSPHERES The ÅngströmSphere line of uniform micron-scale silica spheres is available from Fiber Optic Center Inc. The spheres maintain a particle-size distribution of <10% and purity of >99.9%, and are available as standard items in sizes ranging from 0.05 to 2 µm. They can be supplied in dry form, with no surface modification, or in dispersions of water, alcohol or other materials. Applications include photonic crystals and synthetic opals, filler for polymeric systems or nanocomposites, antislip agents for plastic film production, ceramic and glass forming, LCD spacers and light diffusers.
